The biggest mistake new fantasy cycling players make is spending everything on the stars. With only 100 credits for 8 riders, you simply can't afford a team of yellow-jersey contenders — and you don't need to.
Value, not star power
VeloFantasy gives every rider a value score — projected points per credit. A superstar might score the most total points, but at 40 credits their points-per-credit is moderate. A well-chosen domestique at 5 credits can deliver far more value, because:
- He scores assist points every time his team lands a rider in the stage or GC top three
- He frees up budget for you to afford one or two genuine stars
- On a dominant team, those assist points add up fast over three weeks
Where to find value
- Domestiques on strong teams — the engine room of GC squads, cheap and consistent
- Breakaway specialists — unfancied riders who chase stage wins and KOM points
- Sprinters' lead-out men — points from the points classification and assists
- Veterans past their peak — big names at bargain prices
Use the tools
On the rider list you can sort and filter by value score, and each rider card shows it at a glance. Open any rider for a deeper breakdown of their GC, stage and assist potential.
The winning formula is almost always 1–2 stars + a wall of value picks. Find the bargains, balance your team, and let the assists do the work.
